Portland Question 1: An Act To Amend The City Of Portland’s Emergency Wage Provision

The Cumberland County Greens unequivocally stand with workers and their right to fair wages, particularly during times of crisis. By voting NO on Portland Question One, voters will uphold the current emergency wage provision that ensures that non-remote employees in Portland receive a minimum wage increase of at least fifty percent during declared states of emergency, regardless of whether the City Council has taken action. This measure is a crucial safeguard for workers who are disproportionately affected by emergencies and should not be subject to unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. The committee opposes this attempt to weaken worker protections and urges all Portland residents to join us in protecting our neighbors and supporting a fair and just economy.
