Portland Question 2: An Act to Amend Portland’s Short Term Rental Unit Registration Requirements
The Cumberland County Greens recognize the impact that short-term rentals have on our housing supply and affordability, particularly in our urban communities. By voting YES on Portland Question Two, voters will support a measure that puts reasonable limits on short-term rentals to ensure that our neighborhoods remain diverse and accessible for all residents. The proposed cap of no more than one and a half percent of the city’s rental stock strikes a balance between accommodating visitors and protecting the needs of year-round residents. Additionally, the requirement for owner occupancy and restrictions on Peaks Island are important steps towards addressing concerns about the negative effects of short-term rentals on our communities. The committee endorses this measure as part of our commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive development in Portland and urges all residents to join us in supporting a fairer and more equitable housing market.
